Substitute
If you can't quit, substitute.
I read a story years ago about a professor riding a train. The other commuters knew that he always fussed over his pipe and lit it as the train entered the woods. He then sat looking out the window, contemplating.
Today was different.
The professor still took out his pipe at the appointed time, still reached into his vest pocket for a match - and pulled out an eye-dropper. He fussed a bit as he put a drop of water on a small plant he had added to the bowl of his pipe. He then sat looking out the window, contemplating.
If you can't quit, substitute.
Then quit - if you wish.
